South East Asian Hawker Centre Opens in Sydney
Are heading to Sydney soon? Why not sample some South East Asian fare in Australia? Slightly more atas than what we might be used to, District 8 is a giant Hawker precinct that just opened in Sydney’s southwest.
On offer are a variety of different Asian dining experiences, including the best dishes and flavours from Vietnam, China, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia all under the one roof – but no Singaporean food (yet).
Visitors can look forward to authentic soups, a huge bakery as well as an indoor charcoal grill. You can even choose your own seafood from a huge fish tank. Just like in Singapore’s Hawker centres, you will also get fresh fruit juices, including sugar cane juice. Taking it a step further, there will also be a bar, serving wines and cocktails.
Serving cocktails in a Hawker centre? Perhaps that would be a consideration for Singapore. Can you imagine drinking a Pina Colada as well as eating your favourite Hawker dishes? It might draw in new audiences. Who knows.
